3/30/08 Yemen
In february 2008 I spent two weeks travelling around the Republic of Yemen. Apart from the usual sightseeing stops, I did some trekking in the Haraz mountains and the Jebel Bura area. Unfortunately, it was not possible to visit the Hadhramouth region (including Shibam), as originally planned. Back in january a Belgian tourist had been killed by terrorists. That being said, I had a great time!
10/21/07 Kenya
In september 2007 I spent ten days in east africa to climb Mount Kenya, the second highest peak on the continent after Kilimanjaro. The mountain and it's surrounding area is justifiably famous for it's varied scenery. I actually made it to the top of Point Lenana (4985m). The views from the top were limited due to snowfall. I also did some wildlife spotting in the Samburu National Reserve and the Lake Nakuru National Park.
4/27/06 New website design
Well, after many months of work it's finally here, the new and improved www.peterboekamp.com! I made some changes, especially in the navigation of the website and added photo galleries. Now there's a 'special interest' section if you're looking for images of 'the Sahara's diverse landscape', 'the world's highest mountains' or 'mountain peoples'. Check it out!
The travel-info section of the website has been redesigned too. Now it should be easier to see what's on offer. I've added lists of important Karakoram and Nepal peaks to help you find a particular mountain image. You can also listen to vocal music performed by the Libyan crew that accompanied me on my trip in the Fezzan. Now this site has officially gone 'multimedia'..!

Who I Am
I'm an amateur photographer with a focus on travel photography and a special interest in the mountainous regions of the world. I was born 1971 in Hamburg, one of the most beautiful cities in Germany (weather permitting). Apart from photography, I'm also interested in going to the movies, music, literature, collecting DVDs, Apple computers and all sorts of sport and outdoor activities.

Photography

All photographs were taken with a Canon 35mm SLR camera (EOS 600/630 & EOS 30/ELAN 7e) and a rather small selection of lenses. The reasonably priced Canon 28-105/3,5-4,5 USM lens has been my standard lens for quite a long time. Only recently, I bought my first Canon 'premium' lens (24-105/4L IS) to accompany me on my Yemen tour. It's a great travel lens.
As a trekker, I prefer to travel light and keep the photographic equipment to a minimum. Even though most people go 'digital' nowadays (for good reasons), I shoot slide film almost exclusively. That is for the most part Kodak (Elite Chrome 100).
To put the images on the web, the photographs were scanned with Nikon's excellent film scanner Coolscan V ED (LS-50). Scan software is LaserSoft's SilverFast Ai. I have used Adobe Photoshop CS3 for adjustments, if necessary. None of the images have been manipulated though and 'faithfully' represent what the photographer saw and the camera captured.

Site Design
The website has been produced on an Apple PowerBook G4 15' and, more recently, a MacBook Pro 15', with Mac OS X installed, using Freeway Pro, a web publishing software from Softpress Systems (Mac only). For your convenience this site is 100% free of animations, ads, annoying backgrounds, frames, and anything that blinks. That being said, you need a browser that can handle HTML 4 Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Navigating this site should be self-explanatory.
