lemurs, Tsiribihina River boat tour & baobab alley
Thanks to its isolated location off the east coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean, Madagascar is home to a unique flora and fauna. In May 2025, I travelled around the country for two weeks. I had the opportunity to observe numerous animals, including the various species of lemurs. I also went on a two-and-a-half-day motorboat trip on the Tsiribihina River. This was a great opportunity to observe the people who live along the river as they go about their daily work.

Starting point of my trip was the lively capital Antananarivo. From there, I first headed east to spend two days in the Palmarium Reserve, also known as 'Ankanin'ny Nofy', a spectacular private reserve nestled along the shores of Lake Ampitabe, on the eastern coast of Madagascar. Lemurs here include the indri, black-and-white ruffed, common brown as well as introduced black and crowned lemurs.
