Hiking in east greenland, ammassalik Island
In July 2017 I visited Ammassalik Island on the East Coast of Greenland which is separated from the mainland of Greenland by the wide Sermilik Fjord in the west, and by the Ikaasartivaq Strait in the northeast. The Ammassalik area of East Greenland, an isolated wilderness of steep granite mountains, glittering fjords and impressive glaciers, offers great opportunities for outdoor adventure. In July 2023 I revisited East Greenland.

Tasiilaq on Ammassalik Island is the largest town in Eastern Greenland and the gateway to pretty much every kind of outdoor adventure that Greenland offers. The town is only ten minutes by air from Kulusuk with an Air Greenland helicopter, or an hour by boat, if the weather conditions are optimal.
I traveled to southeastern Greenland again for two weeks in July 2023 to spend more time there exploring the Arctic wilderness. Not all excursions could be done as planned due to the sometimes bad (rather challenging) weather and scheduling problems. Nevertheless, I had a good time.
