The Atacama desert is a plateau in South America, covering a 1000 kilometre strip of land on the Pacific coast, west of the Andes mountains. Regarded as the driest hot desert in the world, the Atacama is composed mostly of salt lakes, sand, and felsic lava flows towards the Andes. In August 2013 I returned to Chile for an overland tour trough Chile's Atacama desert.

On my tour trough Chile's northern desert I visited the regions 'capital' San Pedro de Atacama and it's surrounding area, including the 'Valley of the Moon' and the El Tatio geyser field. I camped at the Salar de Surire and climbed up Guane Guane, 5097m, in Lauca National Park to enjoy great views of volcano Parinacota.
