Libya: Fezzan Highlights (63 Photos)
In the Christmas holidays of 2003 I travelled trough the Fezzan, the south-western quarter of Libya. Must-visits in the Fezzan include the Jabal Akakus, the Messak Settafet, the Ubari dunes and the legendary oasis town of Ghadamès.
Libya: Fezzan Rock Art (18 Photos)
A big draw of the Fezzan are the rock paintings and carvings of the Jabal Akakus (aka Tadrart Akakus). Some of the finest examples of prehistoric rock art can be found in the Wadi Teshuinat area. The rock carvings of the Messak Settafet (the 'Black Plateau'), especially in the Wadi Matkhandush, are not to be missed either.
Libya: Leptis Magna & Sabratha (18 Photos)
In Tripolitania, Libya's western province, the sprawling ruins of Roman Leptis Magna, near Khums, and Sabratha, halfway between Tripoli and the Tunisian border, are among the most extraordinary ancient sites in the Mediterranean. Leptis Magna was designated a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1982.
Nepal: Kathmandu Valley (27 Photos)
A virtual living museum, the Kathmandu Valley is crammed with sights. Popular attractions on the sightseeing trail include the Buddhist stupas of Swayambhunath and Bodhnath, the Hindu temple complex of Pashupatinath on the banks of the sacred Bagmati river, Patan, and the mediaeval city of Bhaktapur.
Australia: Travelling All Around (45 Photos)
In 1994 I suspended my studies at university to travel all around Australia, including Tasmania, for a period of six months. I was fascinated by the vastness and grandeur of the Australian landscape. The fifth continent has it all: beaches, mountains, rain forests, deserts, and the bush.
Kenya: Samburu & Nakuru (27 Photos)
Samburu is a small reserve of scrub desert, thornbush, riverine forest, and swamps along the Ewaso Ngiro River, situated north of Mount Kenya. Elephant and lion are plentiful, as are oryx, reticulated giraffe, zebra and other species adapted to an arid environment. Lake Nakuru National Park is best known for its millions of flamingos nesting along the shores.
Scotland: Isle of Harris (9 Photos)
The Outer Hebrides represent a world in it's own. In 1998 I spent some time on Harris, the southern part of a double island. It's an island of contrast: in the west are some of the most beautiful beaches to be found anywhere in the world whilst the north and east are rugged, rocky places which make you think you have reached the moon.

Yemen, located in the southwestern corner of the Arabian peninsula, is one of the most intriguing countries in the Arab world. The Old City of Sana'a with its extraordinary architecture is a must-see, just like the dramatic mountain terraces in the northern and central portions of the country.

Travelling around Yemen, I definitely enjoyed the architecture and landscapes of the country. But above all, the Yemeni people are friendly and helpful. Taking photographs of them, especially on my excursions to remote mountain villages, was a pleasure. Unfortunately, women are not 'included'.

Yemen: Mountains Of Yemen (36 Photos)
Both the Haraz mountains and the mountains in the Jebel Bura region are great for hiking and trekking. The local people reside in compact fortified villages reminiscent of the Middle Ages and have retained many of their old customs and practices. A great bonus is that there are only a small number of tourists.
Pakistan: Concordia/K2 Trek (54 Photos)
By far the most popular trek in Northern Pakistan is the long and demanding trek along the Braldu Valley and Baltoro Glacier to Concordia, a magnificent natural amphitheatre at the foot of the Gasherbrum peaks and K2 (8611m), the world's second highest mountain. It's an awe-inspiring site!
Nepal: Solu Khumbu (36 Photos)
The attractions of the Solu Khumbu region are the majestic mountains, the high mountain villages, the isolated monasteries, and the local peoples. Everest is only one of a myriad of beautiful peaks in the area and there are many other attractions. The Gokyo Valley is particularly beautiful and offers incredible potential for exploration and high-altitude walking.
Nepal: Annapurna Circuit (36 Photos)
The Annapurna Circuit is the most popular long-distance trek in Nepal. The trek circles the entire Annapurna mountain massif and in doing so offers a spectacular variety of people and landscapes, from lowland farming country to alpine meadows to the Tibet-like country on the northern slopes of the Himalaya.
Kenya: Mount Kenya (27 Photos)
In the central highlands of Kenya, a couple of hundred kilometers
north of the equator, lays Mount Kenya, Africa's second highest peak. The mountain and it's surrounding area is famous for it's varied scenery and attracts several thousand climbers annually. I chose the popular Chogoria route for the ascent combining it with the Burguret route for a six day east-west traverse.
